For the children

Russian Orthodox School of St Martyr Sophia

The parish school has taught children the Orthodox faith, the Russian language and Russian culture since 2008 — so that what was carried across the world to New Zealand is handed on whole to the next generation.

About the school

Faith, language, culture

The Russian Orthodox School — named in honour of the holy martyr Sophia — is a non-profit school under the wing of the parish, with prayer and the study of Scripture woven into its day. Children learn the Law of God, Russian language and literature, and the songs, feasts and traditions of Russian culture.

The school is governed by a council headed by our rector, Archpriest Vladimir Boikov, and administered by Alena Ivanova. Hot meals are provided on school days, and every summer the school runs its much-loved camp.
